Greetings young and eager minds!

This is for the FA students who are doing Design research or SRI this semester. The consultation will begin next week or week 2 (17/11/08). Here are some things that are needed before next week's consult.

(1) Please form groups of 5 students. The purpose of doing so is to allow for a more efficient use of the consultation time. Each group, not individual, will come and consult with me at one time.

We will use Group A, Group B, Group C Group D, Group E and Group F. As such, please give me the names and emails of the members of the group in the comments area of this entry.

For example:

Group A - John (email:something@something.com), Sam (email:something@something.com), Sarah (email:something@something.com), Harry (email:something@something.com)& Sally (email:something@something.com)

Group B - and so on...

(2) I would like volunteer about 5 students who would like to consult with Ms. June Jong. This is to evenly split the cohort of students doing SRI this sem. Again, please inform me who would like to consult with Ms. June or I will pick. ONLY 5 members needed.

(3) For next week's consult, please bring your proposals for consult. Your proposal should relate to your FYP. This class is for you to do research on areas that you will use in your FYP.

Write it in the format given to you by Dr. Mai and please use the proper referencing technique.

Here is a rule to live by for SRI - no references, no proposal, no passing.

In research terms, referencing is to give credit to people or persons who originally came up with the idea or concept. If you do not reference the idea or sentence you took from others, it would be unethical as well as not permissable. It would be considered plagrism. So please take note of how references are done. Dr. Mai will elaborate referencing in the lectures.

(4) Tentative Consultation times:
Tuesday 930-11 am OR
Thursday 1030am-1230 pm (since all have no classes on Thursday, this is preferred.)


I do not know when you are free so please let me know. I am hoping these times are suitable. I would prefer to meet as many groups at one time rather than one group per day. So, please discuss amongst yourself.

(5) Finally, please follow the schedule of submissions. Late submissions are frowned upon and may result in reduction of marks.
